WEBER STATE BIOGRAPHY
Once upon a time, I began my track career thirteen years ago as a distance runner…and if you know me, you would know this would be hard to believe! Most of my time I spent running 800 meter races and sometimes even the mile. I spent my first two years as a long distance athlete working toward endurance, long runs, and controlling the lean muscle development.
I struggled trying to keep up with the true distance runners. I could barely keep up, I would be out of breath, tired, and couldn’t keep up with the distances. At one point, I began thinking about quitting track altogether…until one day I saw a metaphorical beam of light glaring off of the medal stands of an object I hadn’t given two thoughts about before.
At the time, I did not think I would become a hurdler, let alone a sprinter for that matter! So, I ran toward the hurdle, attempted a semi-decent (completely incorrect approach) and…fell flat on my face. No matter how many times I would fall on my face attempting to hurdle, something was telling me that this is what I needed to pursue.
From that moment on, I knew it was my purpose in life to pursue this dream. I knew I wanted to be the best hurdler in my community, the state of Utah, and eventually the best in the Big Sky Conference where I achieved a full tuition scholarship at Weber State University.
I chose Weber State because it was home. Not only was it local to me, I was also able to discover myself and learn who I was destined to be. Over the years, Weber State became more than just a university. I spent so many hours at the track perfecting my craft, in the library studying to increase my knowledge, and developing a routine that eventually shaped the person I am today.
I worked tirelessly every single day building my passion and loving every minute of my training. I have given every ounce of my passion and heart during each of my practices, spent countless hours on the extra work, and made track and field my number one priority. Because of my determination to succeed, I have broken records at Wahlquist Jr. High school, Fremont High school, Weber State University, stadium, facility, and meet records at various universities in the western U.S, and the Big Sky Conference 100m hurdle record.
Since my time at Weber State, I have become the best version of myself. Prior to graduating with my Master degree in Professional Communication in 2019, I broke the Big Sky Conference 100 meter hurdle record 5 times, set numerous stadium and meet records along the western U.S and became the first athlete in Weber State history to become an All American in the 100m hurdles. Currently, I am continuing my passion by running professionally and working with college athletes at Weber State University.
